Creative Nature NYC Preschool Art Sessions are based on artistic provocations and sustainable art practices, where we expose children to a variety of sensory experiences promoting speech development as well as fine and motor skills while working with recycled and natural materials. Unlike public education and traditional art studios where the curriculum is designed before the start of the year and without meeting the children, our curriculum is emergent and evolves according to children’s interests and desires.
At Creative Nature NYC Preschool Art Sessions, we offer:
- The design of weekly artistic provocations: we called “provocation” to catalyzers for artistic investigations, new experiences or what sparks thoughts-in-motion. Weekly provocations may include; natural colours coming from plants, observational drawing investigating the different shapes of leaves and beans and sand compositions among others. Our goal is for children to create art projects that are dynamic combination of hypothesis, subjects, mix-media and methods.
-The development of an art atelier corner in the school. We are not only interested in teaching at the school, but also in setting up an art corner where children can explore by themselves different materials and topics that call their attention when sessions are not taking place. In the Reggio Emilia approach, the physical space is designed to act as the third teacher and it accomplishes this by continually inviting exploration from the children who attend it. We want to foster an art atelier corner in every school of NYC!
- The design of weekly art provocations for children to experiment when art sessions are not taking place by collaborating and training preschool teachers with these materials.
- The documentation of children’s work by writing monthly portfolios newsletters and posters for parents, teachers and the school community.
- The organization and installation of Fall and Spring semester art shows with children’s work.
-The ordering and organizing of art supplies.
