Today’s art adventure was all about seeds.
We started by getting curious about the kinds we see around us — sycamores, red maples, oaks… some familiar, some a bit mysterious. The conversation naturally drifted to what these trees do for us and the ecosystems they’re part of — how something so small can carry so much potential.

Inspired by the shapes of these seeds — spinning, winged, round, ribbed — we brought that curiosity into the studio. We made little clay bowls, using different tools to explore texture and mark-making. Each one came out completely unique, like its own seed story.

In the morning, we took a break from all that focus and ran off to the playground — and played and played and played! There’s something wonderful about switching from quiet observation to full-body joy, and back again.

🌿 What does the Sun do for our planet?
The answers we uncovered:
🌞 It gives us light and warmth
🌻 Helps plants grow
🌧 Helps create weather
🔋 Powers solar energy
…and maybe even sends us secret messages!

To decode those solar secrets, we used turmeric magic ink — a special natural paint made from turmeric and baking soda. When we painted our “invisible” messages and then brushed them with a mystery liquid (soap or acidic solution), they magically appeared in a deep reddish color. 🌈✨ It was like sunshine science alchemy!

After all that discovering, we celebrated with good old-fashioned fun:

Greenpoint Library Fun: Pine Cone & Acorn Mobiles!

Some time ago at the Greenpoint Library, kids had a blast getting creative—and a little scientific! During our special activity, young artists used pine cones, acorns, sticks, and string to make their very own hanging mobiles.

As they built their mobiles, they learned about balance—how to make sure both sides hang evenly by adjusting the weight and position of each piece. Some mobiles were wild and twisty, while others were neat and symmetrical.

It was part art, part science, and 100% fun!
