Creative Nature NYC Living Lab

What does it mean to bloom? As much a question for flowers as it is for all beings, blooming asks how we transform as spring unfolds around us.

During Spring Recess, we slow our wondering feet to first breathe—then smell, listen, and look closely.Chicks are hatching. Bees, dusted in pollen, move from flower to flower. Petals arrive in spectacular colors and fragrances, offering signs of change everywhere we turn. Guided by this question—and many others that emerge from the children themselves—we experiment with botanical and mineral pigments, shadows, clay, movement, storytelling, drawing, and mask-making. Through these explorations, the park becomes a living classroom and creative partner. The Living Lab: Spring Recess in the Park

Daily Schedule Overview

Each day begins with a provocation—a material, question, or experience offered as an invitation. In the Reggio Emilia tradition, educators listen closely, document children’s ideas, and support projects that grow from their curiosity. While each day offers a starting theme, the direction of the work evolves through dialogue, observation, and collaboration. Children are invited to develop a project over the course of the camp, often choosing to work collaboratively as ideas intertwine and grow togethe
